2016 - 2017   House League Information

WMBA House League is intended for boys and girls looking to start their basketball endeavors in a fun non-competitive manner.  

Our focus :

  • Teaching proper fundamentals with age specific drills.

  • To assure equal match ups whenever possible for positive development.

  • Educate players to understand the rules of the game and basketball terminology.

  • Encourage teamwork and fair play.

  • Focus on Long Term Athletic Development (LTAD)

The WMBA house league offers the following programs based on age groups:

2012

4

Friday  Nights     6:00  to  7:00 pm.

Start : Week of Oct 17th for 13 weeks

The objective of this program is to introduce the player to the sport of basketball. The main focus is to develop Fundamental Movement Skills (running, jumping, throwing, catching).  Games will be simple and fun using basketball equipment.

Jr. NBA

2009-2011

5 - 7

Monday Nights     6:00  to  7:15 pm.

Start with Team : Week of Oct 17th for 15 weeks

First session will be split for the teams between October  17th and 18th. You will attend only 1 date, specific date TBA. This will ensure introduction for the players run smoothly. The second session on October 24th will have all teams.

The JR NBA Program has been developed by NBA Basketball Operations and a team of experts in child development and physical literacy, and basketball fundamentals

The objective of this program provide entry-level basketball program for young children 5 to 7 years. The curriculum follows Canadian Sport 4 Life/Long Term Athlete Development and is aligned with Canada Basketball's Developmental Pathway. Development of all Fundamental Movement Skills (running, jumping, throwing, catching) and Basketball Skills (footwork, dribbling, passing, shooting) that are appropriate for this age level will be taught.  Games will be modified to be age-appropriate, simple and fun

Equipment & Uniform - will include age-appropriate equipment (smaller basketball and lowered adjustable hoops).  Players will receive a size-appropriate Spalding® Rookie Gear Basketball and NBA team branded t-shirt

Novice

2007-2008

8 - 9

Monday Nights     7:15  to  8:30 pm.

Start with Team : Week of Oct 17th for 15 weeks 

First session will be split for the teams between October  17th and 18th. You will attend only 1 date, specific date TBA. This will ensure introduction for the players run smoothly. The second session on October 24th will have all teams.

The objective of this program is to further development fundamental movement skills, and basketball specific skills. This program is heavily based in skills, and is non-competitive with modified formal games. 

Atom

2005-2006

10 - 11

Saturday Games and 1 practice during the week.

Evaluations: October 1st, 5th, and 8th, times TBA

Start with Team : Week of Oct 17th for 16 weeks 

(practice day will depend on coach’s availability)

The objective of this program is to continue improving sport specific basketball skills. This will be the first program where kids will play tradition formal basketball games (with slight variations). This program is focused on building basketball knowledge and skill to develop our players.

Bantam Girls

2001-2003

12 - 13

Saturday Games and 1 practice during the week.

Evaluations: October 1st, 5th, and 8th, times TBA

Start with Team : Week of Oct 17th for 16 weeks 

(practice day will depend on coach’s availability)

The objective of the program is to allow players to engage in formal basketball games and to continuing to develop their sport specific skills while enhancing their basketball IQ. 

Bantam / Midget Boys

2002-2004

12 - 14

Friday Games and 1 practice during the week.

Evaluations: October 1st, 5th, and 8th, times TBA

Start with Team : Week of Oct 17th for 16 weeks 

(practice day will depend on coach’s availability)

The objective of the program is to allow players to engage in formal basketball games and to continuing to develop their sport specific skills while enhancing their basketball IQ. 

Midget /Juvenile Girls

1999-2002

14 - 17

Saturday Games and 1 practice during the week.

Evaluations: October 1st, 5th, and 8th, times TBA

Start with Team : Week of Oct 17th for 16 weeks

(practice day will depend on coach’s availability)

The objective of the program is to allow players to engage in formal basketball games and to continuing to develop their sport specific skills while enhancing their basketball IQ. 

Juvenile Boys

1999-2001

15 - 17

One night per week (weekday) of pick-up games - Day TBD

Start : Week of Oct 17th for 16 weeks 

The objective of the program is to allow boys an opportunity to continue to play and have fun. Teams will be mixed weekly.  There will be a referee to ensure the games are managed and organized. There will be no practice.

 

 

* Divisions are based on number of players and teams, adjustments may be required.

"I would like to register my son for the travel team u17 however, I think I need to register him perhaps in house league first and I am having difficulty finding the link would someone send it to me please. Thanks: Jackie Wangler"
